In addition to using green concepts such as minimizing waste with a waste management plan, Heartwood Construction also makes an effort to use green products. The wood I-joists that were used to construct the floor and roof structure of this garage are a green product because they are made from recycled wood product. In addition to being an environmentally responsible solution, they provide an incredible amount of strength, creating a solid sound structure that feels (and is) secure.

View from atop the garage. Integrated design is important when doing any home addition. The roof line on the mudroom mimics the same roof line of the covered porch on the other side of the house. When it is complete, it will look like it was there from the beginning.

Notice again the I-joist construction. This also allows us to sometimes use wider joist spacing (2 ft here) which in-turn means less wood, more insulation; also a green concept.

When constructing any kind of addition, it is important that it compliments the existing structure and is not overbearing. As you can see here, the garage harmonizes well with the existing home and could almost look like part of the original design.
